Time to remodel your kitchen?
Many of us perpetually put off our kitchen renovation for later, choosing to just live with chipped tiles or 1980s cabinetry. After all, taking on any remodeling project can add a substantial amount of stress – and sawdust – to your home. There is also kitchen remodeling cost to consider. However, improving your home can also add to its value, and minor and mid-level kitchen and bathroom remodels are consistently ranked as top projects with a consistent, long-term ROI. If your kitchen meets any of these four criteria, then it may be time to quit putting up with your cooking space, start planning, and just remodel your kitchen.
1. The appliances no longer work
More specifically, the appliances you have are so old that they’ve become dangerous. This may be the case if you have a gas stove, for instance, and it has a leak. In turn, you could be putting your household at risk of a fire. Electrical shortages as a result of faulty appliances, such as a toaster or microwave, can also be fire hazards.
Aside from the risks, your kitchen can become downright dysfunctional over time without working appliances, such as a dishwasher or garbage disposal. Think about the benefits of a remodel if your appliances are dated or no longer useful.
2. It’s a one-person cooking center
Today, the kitchen has become a place for the congregation in the house. This means that more than one person is typically in the kitchen at one time, preparing food or entertaining guests. If your kitchen is still closed off from the rest of your house – or the dining area in particular – it’s time to consider an upgrade to the 21st century.
One of the most popular choices for modern renovations is to open up the kitchen to the entirety of the home. An open concept kitchen design from the kitchen into other living areas can not only add functionality and comfort into the home, but equity as well.
3. Your family has grown
Whether you’ve had one child or three since you moved into your house, the way you function as a family can let you know if you need a kitchen renovation. So, maybe consider cabinets that open more easily. Otherwise, perhaps a refrigerator with lower drawers for your little family members would be more fitting. Any of these are viable reasons to consider a renovation.
Many kitchens in smaller spaces lack an eat in area for growing families, and may only include a breakfast bar and small space. Again, opening up a wall can be able to give you a transitional space to use as a convertible eat in kitchen and living area.
4. You lack storage space
It sounds like a simple problem that doesn’t warrant a renovation, but the more you cook, the quicker you’ll realize the need for plenty of storage. If your kitchen lacks the space you need to store all of your cooking supplies (e.g., bowls, dishware, and tabletop appliances), you may want to rethink its design. Today’s kitchens are designed to house all of the items you need to prepare meals and serve them to dinner parties, big or small. Therefore you shouldn’t limit yourself by the storage space in your kitchen.
The kitchen can be one of the most expensive areas of the home to renovate. However, doing so can increase your resale value and give you a more enjoyable living space. Whether your appliances are on their last legs or you simply want a fresh look, there’s never a bad time to consider a kitchen remodel.

I like your comment about the kitchen being a place where people congregate. It is so true, and sometimes it is nice to have more than one person at a time helping in the kitchen! I think that it is time for me to upgrade my kitchen!
This website is a nightmare. The images in the slideshow are different sizes so it keeps bumping the text around. It took me forever just to write this comment becuase the comment box keeps bumping out of the screen for crying out loud fix your website.
It was really nice how you said that the kitchen is already up for renovation if the current kitchen that we’re using only fits one person. The kitchen is not exactly that small, it can actually fit two or three people in it. However, I noticed that it’s become too crowded with all the extra appliances and containers. I guess we really should consider getting it renovated and expanded. Thanks!
I really liked it when you suggested getting the kitchen upgraded if the area is closed off to the other members of the family and only one person can have access or work in the area. That is exactly the look of the kitchen, and although we will still fit inside, it will be hard to move without bumping into one another. I will ask my mom to consider remodeling the kitchen as we both love to cook. Thank you.
